Brazil's Hot and Dry... Green Coffee Sizzles

Scorching weather and no rain in Brazil's coffee producing regions of Minas Gerais and Espirito Santo have sent coffee prices climbing very quickly in the last months. Back in November, coffee prices nearly touched the $100 mark (per 46 kilo sack of green coffee beans), whereas today, prices settled at $175. A long, steep climb in a very short time. Brazil, the world's biggest producer and exporter of coffee, could experience a loss of up to 30% of its crop according to many experts. Coffee drinkers will not feel the immediate effect in the short term. But if the rain doesn't put an end to this sizzle soon, we could see escalating prices. Not at the pump where we are used to, but at our local coffee shop...
